We all know that the gas and plumbing industries are evolving at a rate not seen in decades. Conventional heating systems and traditional gas boilers are being phased out as alternatives from renewable heating sources come to the forefront.

One such renewable energy source is the air source heat pump. Also known as an air-to-water source heat pump, it works by transferring outside heat into water. It doesn't matter what the outside temperature is – water heat pumps have the technology to combat any climate. This then heats rooms via radiators or underfloor heating systems. A heat pump can also heat water for your taps, showers and baths.
A heat pump doesn't need to burn fuel or convert electricity to keep a home toasty. By moving existing warm air inside, they are more energy efficient than their traditional counterparts. After the initial upfront cost of installation, a new air source heat pump will not only fulfil all heating and hot water needs; it will almost certainly reduce energy bills.
Heat source pumps: an energy-efficient way to heat a property
If a homeowner already owns a new A-rated boiler, they are unlikely to see many savings when it comes to heating bills. However, the average household with older boilers or electric storage heaters will see a marked improvement in their fuel bills once a heat pump is installed. Plus, when it comes to low carbon heating, those previously reliant on coal and LPG will experience a huge reduction in their energy consumption and carbon emissions.
As such, there are a variety of air source heat pump grants, as well as the Boiler Upgrade Scheme, designed to encourage homeowners to upgrade their current fossil fuel boilers and reduce their reliance on mains gas, take advantage of green technologies available and make energy savings that have a positive environmental impact. New build properties are being built using air source heating systems in order to enjoy optimum efficiency from a natural source.
With the government aiming to have 600,000 heat pump systems installed by 2028, the gas industry has a massive task ahead to train enough engineers to cope with the ever-increasing demand. It is a legal requirement that anyone installing heat pump systems holds the relevant certification, otherwise the work will be illegal and potentially dangerous.

The Heat Pump qualification has been developed by OFTEC and certificated via UK Certification UK Ltd. It is a fully accredited qualification which is also MCS (Microgeneration Certification Scheme) aligned. It provides you with all the knowledge and skills you need to legally install all non-refrigerant heat pumps systems in the UK.
The Air Source Heat Pump course is a three-day programme, and the cost includes all course material you require, it is the most affordable heat pump course you will find in Essex and the South East.
