Can you believe it? As of 2022, Gas Training & Assessment Ltd is 25 years old!

Our history

Established by John Harrison and Nigel Farquhar in 1997, Gas Training & Assessment Ltd (GTA) quickly became a firm favourite amongst gas engineers across the region. Sadly Nigel passed away suddenly in 2000; Victor Knight stepped in and along with John, they ran the centre together for the next 17 years.

John Harrison retired at the ripe old age of 72 and was replaced by David Lambert. David and Vic then ran the business until Vic took early retirement in December 2019. David is now sole owner of GTA, capably supported by our team of trainers, assessors and office manager.

Our growth

Gas Training & Assessment Ltd became a limited company in 2021. We are proud to be one of the oldest ACS centres in the UK still trading.

The centre has an extensive client base that includes in excess of 3,000 gas companies and engineers. The majority are based in Essex and the surrounding counties but we have customers who travel to us from as far as Dorset and the Isle of Wight in the south, Bristol in the west, Norfolk in the east and Birmingham and beyond in the north, making Gas Training & Assessment Ltd a truly national company. Our clients range from 18 years old to 78+ (the oldest person who has re-sat their gas qualifications with us so far!)

We have always been based in Britannia Courts, Basildon, although we have moved units over the years! We have been in Units 2, 4 and 6 since the mid 2000’s – a location that suits us and our customers perfectly.

In recent years, GTA has undertaken a major refurbishment of our facilities. This includes a total overhaul of our training areas and extending our assessment areas in order to improve customer experience. We have also added air conditioning throughout the centre to ensure that engineers are comfortable no matter how hot it is outside.

Our philosophy

Established in 1997, Gas Training & Assessment Ltd is 25 years old this year! Over the years we’ve helped thousands of engineers achieve their career aspirations.

We have been told that our training is the best in the area – we pride ourselves on the quality of our training and assessments and the friendly, relaxed atmosphere we have created in order to put our engineers at ease. Long before restrictions hit, our policy of smaller classes has been a tremendous success. Less participants means less distractions, a calmer learning environment and the opportunity for 1-2-1 support should our engineers need it.

Our qualified trainers are actually more than that – in addition to theoretical knowledge, they all have hands on experience in the gas industry. For example, Managing Director David Lambert worked ‘on the tools’ for 25 years before moving into the education side over a decade ago. Trainer and assessor Chris Tegerine joined GTA in 2005 after a 33 year career with British Gas, whilst David Shepherd spent over 45 years in the gas industry before joining the GTA team in 2019.

We run an online feedback centre to gauge customer satisfaction; you only need to check out the results of over 1,000 5-star reviews and sheer amount of repeat business to see the sort of reputation we have built over the past 25 years.

We are delighted that once an engineer has completed their qualifications with us they won’t go anywhere else for further training.
