Are You Leaving School And Wondering What To Do Next?

Are You Leaving School And Wondering What To Do Next? A Career In The Gas Industry Could Be The Answer

It’s that time of year again when thousands of students are eager to take their first steps on the career or training ladder having just received their exam results.

But for those who have not quite achieved the A Level or GCSE grades they were hoping for, the important advice is not to panic. There’s plenty of help out there and a range of career options available to guide you as you enter the world of work or further education.

The gas industry, in particular, can be a very rewarding career and unlike many of today’s careers, still offers apprenticeship or training opportunities which don’t depend on a prior university education or extensive academic qualifications. These opportunities also exist for students straight from school which gives youngsters plenty of time to learn their craft and become successful gas engineers – with a decent salary – by a relatively young age.

To become a gas engineer, employers will usually look for a good standard of general education such as GCSEs or similar to help narrow down the competition for places. Employers looking to recruit apprentices, for example, will usually ask for at least four GCSEs (A-C) including maths, English and another relevant subject such as science, engineering or design and technology.

As Basildon’s leading gas training provider, we offer a comprehensive range of courses servicing the complete beginner through to advanced gas engineers requiring top-up training. We offer students the opportunity to complete the theory side of their gas training so we are the ideal solution for anyone who is currently receiving practical tuition as part of a work placement or apprenticeship-style scheme. Previous practical experience is essential so for anyone who is fresh from leaving school whether at GCSE level or A-Level, it’s worth looking into the opportunities which exist in your area for trainee positions with an employer.

The gas industry can offer a long and rewarding career for dedicated individuals and there are still plenty of career opportunities, despite the economic climate. While fewer people may require new boilers, homeowners will always need repairs and there are a number of areas in which to specialise.
